Today was another busy day! We started off with Math and I asked Babe to put the blocks in an AB pattern, which she did. Then I asked her to put them in an AAB pattern, which she did. Then I asked her what she thinks an ABC pattern looked like, and you know what? She knew it! She put the blocks together to make an ABC pattern, and she was so proud of herself for knowing. I told her she was awesome! I mean, for not knowing what an AB pattern was at the beginning of the week, to now knowing what an ABC pattern looked like? That means I'm doing something right, right? Amazing.
We finished Math with the usual shapes-into-pattern activity. I think she's happy we are done with patterns. She kind of grudgingly put this pattern together.
After Math we headed to the library for Bubs's and Z's class. Pajama Day! Woo!
When we got back, we ate lunch and jumped into the Reading Comprehension lesson. It was time for her to read another wordless story, "We Can Make It." Babe did good with this one! She picked up on every detail without me having to ask her what was in the background. And with this book, I asked her to name each character, and during her second read-through of the book, she remembered each kid's name! Brilliant. Granted, two were named Ron and Harry and another was named her best friend from VPK, but still! She remembered which was which.
After Reading and doing her Checkpoints, we went into Science with sense of smell. I set up test similar to the taste test from last week. And I'll be blunt with how she did.
Terrible!
I thought I picked some pretty easy ones too. Peanut butter, blueberries, banana, onion! The only one she got correct right away was Play-Doh! How odd!
She thought both the peanut butter and banana were chocolate, which is actually weird, because of Reese Cups, and, when I serve her bananas for snack, I sometimes drizzle some chocolate syrup on them. But she thought the onion was pineapple. Weird.
Then I asked her how she thinks her nose and sense of smell can protect her.
"Well, when you smell smoke you know there's a fire somewhere, right? And you have to run away from it?"
Genius. I was thinking more along the lines of spoiled milk and not to drink it.
After Science, I handed her her first book to read in the month of October, "Let It Fall!" by Maryann Cocca-Leffler. There was a page in the book that talked about bare trees, so I asked Babe what a bare tree was.
"Are those the trees that koalas live in?"
Um. Adorable.
After she finished, we started a brand new list. She was so excited. I asked her if she remembered how many books she read in September. She remembered (11)! Then I asked her if she thinks she should read more books or less books in October.
"I think I should read 20 books this month."
Wow. That sure is a goal! She wants to set it really badly, so I told her I'll see what I can do. I told her that meant that some days she has to read more than one book.
"That's OK. The library has tons of books we can read."
Who is this girl and when she did grow up?
HARRY AND RON!??!!? OMG. LOVE.
