Today was a pretty short, but exciting day. In Math, Babe worked on vertical subtraction problems and remembered everything from yesterday, so she was a whiz at these. I had her write each math problem both vertically and horizontally. She did her worksheets perfectly, and then I called Z and Bubs to the table for a little leprechaun math.
I showed them the cup of Lucky Charms and told them they eat these all the time, but did they even know what was on the box?
Babe gasped.
"A leprechaun!!!!"
ha! So I handed her a Lucky Charms graphing sheet printed from 2teachingmommies.com. I poured the cereal into a pan and had Z and Bubs take all of the marshmallows out.
Then I had Bubs sort them by shape.
After they were sorted, I had Babe call out one shape of marshmallow. Bubs then had to find that marshmallow and count each one, then tell Babe how many there were. Babe then graphed that number.
This repeated until all marshmallows were graphed. It was great teamwork!
I then had Babe create a new graph on the back of her sheet, this time for the specific colors of shooting star marshmallows (since apparently in the original cereal, there were only orange shooting stars and this particular cup had many color shooting stars).
So while Babe created her labels for her new graph, Bubs sorted the shooting stars by color. Then we repeated the previous exercise.
Again, great teamwork!!!
They gave each other high fives. :)
Then we loaded the car and headed to the library for class, where it was Green Day and they learned about all green stuff. So cute.
After lunch, I had Babe do the last few Math worksheets in her Practice and Enrichment book. She turned the last page, saw it was blank white, and gasped!
"Im DONE?! No more homework ever again?!"
"Until next week, when you start First Grade Math!"
"Oh..."
hahahahaha. I laughed. A lot. Inside. But she was still proud of her accomplishment. Finishing Kindergarten Math! That's sort of a big deal.
When she finished, she completed another hundred chart, St. Patrick's Day themed. She predicted it was going to be a shamrock, a leprechaun, or St. Patrick. Halfway through, she knew it was going to be a leprechaun. She's getting really good at coloring one square in and then looking at the picture and figuring out where the next color goes. It's neat to watch her thought process.
After a quick catnap, Babe read "Ten Lucky Leprechauns" by Kathryn Helling. It was so cute because Babe was reading it to me as well as Bubs, and on every page, she asked Bubs a question like "What color is this leprechaun's hair?" or "How many shamrocks do you see?" Bubs was answering them all correctly and Babe kissed Bubs with every correct answer. It was adorable.
When she finished the book, she added it to her reading log. For the rest of the afternoon, Bubs, Babe, and Z assembled their leprechaun traps for tomorrow.
Her thinking may actually work. You know, enticing a leprechaun into an awesomely built Lego house, car included! We will set them out first thing tomorrow morning in hopes of catching our leprechaun and getting our pot of gold!
