It was a great day at school today, one I'm sure Babe won't forget for a very long time. Or ever, since her memory is ridiculous.
The very first thing we did was grab our traps and head outside to set them. We took our rainbow decorations and they hung them in the trees to lure him in. They all did a very good job making it look leprechaun-friendly.
When they were satisfied with their set up, we went inside and Babe completed her very last Kindergarten Math worksheet! I then explained to her that after next week, we started 1st Grade Math, which will be a lot harder than Kindergarten Math because a lot of this stuff she already knew. She seemed to mentally prepare herself. I'm kind of excited for the new venture!
Next, for a little St. Patrick's Day fun, I had some themed worksheets printed and both Bubs AND Babe did them! One sheet was a "Which One is Different?" sheet. Both had a hard time figuring out the top row (among four shamrocks, one of the stems was pointing the other way), but Bubs' was able to recognize all the other rows, AND was able to tell me how it was different. Perfection. So cute.
The next worksheet was picture matching, where they had to draw lines connecting two columns of matching pictures. Babe knew it was too easy for her, but understood that Bubs felt like a big girl if they did it together, so Babe was pretending she didn't know the answer until Bubs drew her lines. Very, very, very cute. Surprisingly, Bubs did this with ease. Even drew her lines great! Amazing. I love it.
After worksheets, I wanted Bubs to do the clothespin math bin one more time, and Babe went and grabbed the clover lacing-bin for herself. Bubs completed her work with ease, and quickly, and when the bins were put away, we played outside for a bit. They ran to check their traps first, though.
We came inside and I prepared lunch while they played. When Babe's dad came home and informed me the eagle had landed, I called Babe and told her that since she was so convinced the leprechaun would come during lunch (she remembered from last year that he came during lunch, but I distinctly remember him coming at nap time), that we could go check the traps now before we ate. So we did.
I will let the next few photos tell the story of what happened next.
They collected lots of gold coins and even found a letter from the leprechaun (written in font size 3)!!! When they were sure all the gold was collected, they went inside to read the letter.
The leprechaun told Babe that her trap was very good, but that he is faster than she thinks and to try again next year. He said the gold was for trying to catch him! Her eyes were so wide. It was so awesome. I'm loving her imagination. It just keeps growing!
After we settled down, we had some lunch and then changed into bathing suits for her much deserved pool party. Her one cousin came and joined her for lunch and I surprised her with other special guests, more cousins for the pool party!
And yes, we spent 3 hours in the pool.
I have dubbed next week Spring Break, which means NO SCHOOL! I feel Babe deserves the break after completing Kindergarten Math. We will start 1st Grade Math on March 26th, and Academic Kindergarten is scheduled to be completed at the end of May.
If I have time at night I will post photos and updates of our Spring Break activities. The only thing set in stone right now is a Spring Training baseball game on Wednesday, which Babe is very much looking forward to!
