Five. Three. Three.

Today in part of the Math lesson, Babe spelled both fifteen and sixteen correctly on her first try!

In Reading Comprehension, we reviewed "Ten Little Puppies" and I had her write a number sentence for each time the boy lost a puppy. She nearly did the whole book by herself as I was away helping Bubs or Z. I was blown away when I got back to the table. She grew really frustrated at the very last page though (1-1=0). It took her a bit to understand that he had one puppy left, and that same puppy left, equalling zero. But once she read the page a few times, she finally got it.

After Reading Comp., we focused on our next community helper - fishermen! I asked her to tell me everything she knew about what fishermen do, and thanks to Curious Kids on PBS Kids, she was able to tell me practically every detail, including what the inside of their boat looks like.

"They have special coolers on their boats that are really big and they can hold big fish or little fish and a lot of fish! And they have to be careful so they don't catch dolphins instead."

Haha. Cute.

Before our craft, I had her read "Curious George Goes Fishing" and she read it all by herself! It was pretty long for a board book! But her comprehension was spot on.

After she read it, the kids did an "F is for Fisherman!" coloring page that worked great in recalling that F is also for Firefighter! Bubs was so proud of herself that she remembered the letter F, and kept practicing tracing it, too. So cute. I had a second number activity where Bubs and Z both counted five fish and added each fish to their fish bowl.

Since Babe has been dying to try shrimp (since seeing it on the fishing episode of Curious Kids), I surprised them all with a trip to the grocery store to buy some shrimp. I also bought some seafood salad. We headed home where I prepared their plates for lunch.

Both girls tasted the seafood salad and spit it out right away. After that, Bubs refused to try the shrimp. Babe tasted the shrimp and went back and forth on whether she liked it or not. I don't think she didn't like it, I just don't think she'd be able to enjoy a shrimp cocktail. of course, Z ate all of his.

After lunch, I showed Babe a photo I printed out of all of us at the fire station. I told her we were going to send this photo to the firefighters, along with a thank-you note that she would write. Her eyes got really big so I quickly told her it was going to be "short and sweet."

I first asked her what her favorite thing was that they let her do. Of course it was the fire hose, so I told her to make a sentence with those words in it. She did, and the rest she thought of on her own.

How cute is that?! So adorable.

With that, she did her Checkpoints. Then I had her take a quick cat nap.

When all three kids woke up, I had their snacks all ready. Since it was fisherman day, of course our snack had to relate. They each got a mini-bowl of Goldfish crackers, carrot sticks, and peanut butter. I showed them how they could fish with their poles and bait, and they got a big kick out of it.

An awesome way to end the day!
