Five. Two. One.

Today started a new name recognition activity for Bubs and Z, and let me tell you, they both completely surprised me with how quick they matched their letters, especially Z! This idea is a Pinterest idea, as well as Montessori-based, and both kids really enjoyed the activity.

Look at Bubs all proud of her work. :)

With Babe, we started with Math and continued working with subtraction. She has the difference between addition and subtraction down pat. I can ask her simple math problems and she can quickly tell me the answer, all while figuring out if she's adding or taking away. Very cool. So we breezed through Math and jumped right into Reading Comprehension with a funny story called "Counting Noodles."

I actually got out five uncooked noodles and "acted" out the story with them, and Babe was cracking up at the end when the papa noodle couldn't figure out why there were only four of his family members around after a boat trip.

"He keeps forgetting to count himself!!!"

Babe picked it up before I even asked her why he was only counting four people. She was laughing pretty good. So with her comprehension perfected, she completed the worksheet and it was time to discuss our next community helper - nurses.

"Tell me what you know about what nurses do."
"They give you shots, they check your temperature, they hold your arm. They pretty much do everything. And all the paper work!"

Haaa! Funny. I asked her what the difference is between a nurse and a doctor.

"Doctors tell you what's wrong with you and give you medicine and nurses take care of you."

How cute! I taught her the definition of "vital signs" and had her try to feel my pulse but I don't think she was able to. I told her that vital signs were important in knowing if a person is healthy or not, and that's what nurses check! So I told her the next thing we were going to do is pretend we were nurses, but we had to made our hats first!

I gathered everyone to the table where we made simple nurse hats I cut two thin strips of paper, though, for Bubs to figure out how to make the cross. She did!

They played "nurse" for about 30 minutes while I cleaned up! It was so cute. They were taking turns using the doctor kit, taking temperatures and giving shots.

Then, right before going outside to play, I told Babe to run and go get her sensory tub and pull out everything that a nurse would use.

She did! When she didn't pull out the tractor, I asked, "Why not? She wouldn't use this to pick up the cotton ball?" And I tried picking up one with the little truck and her and Bubs were cracking up. Quite cute.

So after playtime and lunch, Babe did her typing lesson of letters F-J. I had her review A-E first and she did amazingly well, typing her name and her sister's name with capital letters at the beginning. She did her online lesson with ease, and to end the day I had her read "Rabbits and Raindrops." I know I say this with every book, but this one is adorable. The illustrations are so cute and colorful and it was fun trying to find all the bugs and stuff in the foreground of each picture. Jim Arnoski really did an awesome job with it.

And with that, we were done with the school day! On to dance!
