Today was so. busy. Routine went out the window since I changed it up a bit and started the day with Bubs and Z in the back room. I asked Bubs if she thought she could do all the bins, since next week we won't be emphasizing on farm (as much). She said she could! So we tried. She picked her first bin, matching letters. And Z picked his first bin, the rice bin.
Bubs did ALL her letters AND guessed the correct animal in each egg before opening them. So cool.

She picked the pre-writing sheets next while Z finished up his rice bin work.
While Z picked the apple bin next, Bubs did the rice bin (three times) next. I think she forgot how fun it was. She kept re-hiding the beads and asking me to shake the bin.
Bubs next did the apple bin, but wasn't too keen on finishing her very last bin, so we packed up the bins and headed to the kitchen to practice pouring.
I'm not sure what it is but kids can do this over and over and over again.
When they were all satisfied with their job, we loaded the car and headed to the library.
After lunch, Bubs decided she wanted to do her very last bin, so I had her bring it out to the living room. Where she did it. All. Correctly.
Very cool. Love it. So proud.
I then gathered all the kids at the table to introduce our theme of the day - pigs. Babe is actually learning about the meat-giving animals on the farm, but pigs is a good topic for The Littles, so I handed them the pages to their own book from 3dinosaurs.com. Each page assigned a certain color for the one pig on the page. Babe did this on her own and Bubs actually did really good doing this by herself too! With a bit of guidance, Z also was able to grab the color I asked him to.
With Bubs and Z in bed (which they both asked for their completed pig book for their nap story), Babe was finally able to do school for the day.
We breezed through Math since it was going over "related facts" which again, I think is weird for Calvert to even give a term to switching the addends in a number sentence. But Babe did it until she understood what was happening. She did her worksheets and I told her that tomorrow is her Chapter 3 test! Gah! Insane. She's excited though.
We then jumped into Science, where we discussed space exploration. I showed her the video of the Moon Landing and she was so mesmerized. It was really cool. I always get goosebumps watching history-making events with her. It's like she's learning real things now. haha.
Anyway, I then showed her this AMAZING video after searching for "eating food in space" and it was exactly what I was looking for. Babe laughed so hard when the astronauts were spilling the orange juice out and and it ended up like "bubbles", as she said. She thought it was so interesting, and without getting too detailed about it, I told her that in space, there's no gravity, which means that things just float when you spill them!
"Where does orange juice go when you spill it in the kitchen?"
"All over the floor!"
"Yeah! Well in space, it just floats!"
"I want to go in space!"
haha
I then asked her if she could remember the names of our planets, and she could only remember three. So I thought it was time to teach her the (modified) poem I learned in school. I had to think quickly on an N-food, but when I showed her what was happening, she gasped.
"OHHH!!!! This is going to teach me how to remember the planets easier!"
Yep.
My. Very. Educated. Mom. Just. Served. Us. Nuts.
Mercury. Venus. Earth. Mars. Jupiter. Saturn. Uranus. Neptune.
(I miss Pluto...)
After reciting the poem a few times, she was able to name the planets, though forgetting Uranus a few times. By the end of the day, she was saying the names of every planet.
Awesome.
I then asked her how astronauts would eat pudding in space.
"With a spoon?"
"Maybe, but I think there's an easier way to eat it and we are going to make it right now!"
She loved this idea and didn't even know what it was yet.
I grabbed a Ziploc bag and put the ingredients of instant pudding in it. Then I had her shake it up.
After it settled, I prepared it for eating!
Yeah, she got a really big kick out of that.
While enjoying her astronaut pudding, we discussed the meat-giving animals of the farm a bit, then reviewed farm life. I then handed her "Baa-Choo!" by Sarah Weeks. This book is practically all dialogue and Babe read it so well. Again, goosebumps. I love it.
By the time she finished the book, nap time was over and I prepared the mud pit.
Yep. Mud pit.
Because what better way to learn about pigs than to pretend to be one for the rest of the afternoon?!
I filled the empty water table with soil and water, hid some play food in the mud, and let them dive right in. And they did! They found and re-found all the food, built mud towers, rolled mud balls. It was pretty fun.
Leave it to the boy to taste the dirt "just like the piggies do."
ha!
That was a good 45 minutes of play, and after cleaning up, we all went inside and I prepared astronaut pudding for Bubs (Z left for the day).
With a teeny bit of time until the end of my day, I handed Babe the slips of paper to all the farm animal puzzles from 3dinosaurs.com and asked her if she could figure out how they go together. I handed them to her in no order and though it was kind of easy, she had a lot of fun doing it.
And with that, Thursday ended.
PHEW! Going through today I thought Friday would never come! But dang we had a lot of fun.
