8th Month! First Week! First Day!

Rolling into our 8th month now. Craziness. Babe is loving everyday and she's moving along quite nicely.

Today in Math, we looked at patterns, which she is an expert at. We didn't need to spend long on it at all, since she already somehow knew I was going to ask her what part of the pattern was the repeating part.

I set out a pattern for her to identify, and once she told me it was an AB pattern, she separated the AB away from it and told me right away that it was the part that repeats. I did the same with an ABC pattern.

So yeah, Math took way shorter than I thought it would, since I thought she'd struggle a bit with it. Apparently not.

For Reading Comprehension, I read her "A Lion on the Path" from Poems and Prose. She was able to retell the story and answer all questions correctly, and guess what the lion and the rabbit did after the story, which is a new concept for her at this point - using imagination to kind of complete the story. Her worksheet on the story covered that, and one picture she drew was oh so cute.

The question asked her to draw something that she would run away from.

"It's supposed to be a dragon."

So cute. She even wrote its growl. hehe

After those two lessons, I gave her some individual work to do while I headed to the back room to work with Z and Bubs and their NEW bins for Easter! They were pretty excited!

Z saw the Easter egg skewers right away and asked to do that one. He knew exactly what to do and he did it about five times over and over! And got excited every time he finished!

Do you want to guess which one Bubs went for right away?

She loves those tracing sheets. And I think it's proving to be an amazing tool because I still can't get over those lowercase H's she drew last week!

While Z was still working with the skewers, I showed Bubs my choice for her second bin - sorting lowercase and uppercase Es. She immediately recognized the uppercase letter and shouted "E!" So then I introduced her to the lowercase e. She did good with the sorting!

When Bubs was finishing that up, Z was onto his second bin, the rice and flashcards bin.

He loves playing in and finding things in the rice!

While Z worked with that, I had Bubs writing her uppercase E on the glass door. She LOVED this opportunity. And did really, really well with her writing!

They both did great today and next was free-play, where they both stayed working with the bins! Ha!

During their playtime, I boiled some eggs and recruited the help of Babe to help me peel them for our next craft.

Next, I gathered all the kids to the table for them to decorate their own Easter egg cut out with egg shells! I wasn't sure how they would turn out but they all turned out amazing! Babe's looked like something I would enjoy framed in my kitchen!

After lunch, I read "Easter" by Gail Gibbons, which was a great introduction about the real reason we celebrate Easter. Babe had more questions about the Crucifixion than I was willing to answer without sending her into shock, but for the most part she got the general idea of it and was satisfied with my vague answers...for now. I might elaborate a bit more if she's still questioning it later on in the week.

She then added her first book to her April Reading Log, "Happy Easter, Hello Kitty" by Rebecca Gomez.

Then it was time to get ready for dance.

Monday: Check!
